Last week, we stumbled upon two very powerful videos that drove home the point of just how destructive texting while driving can be. If you can spare 15 minutes, please take the time to watch them.
AT&T Don’t Text While Driving Documentary
A mere 6 months after the Texting While Driving ban became a primary offense in Washington State, it becomes clear just how hard a law it actually is to enforce.
And we know what happens when a law is not thoroughly enforced. People are getting less worried about breaking it. And indeed, while studies have shown a drop in texting while driving behavior shortly after the ban went into effect, it has been slowly increasing ever since.
This is a dangerous trend.
There is no doubt that Texting while Driving affects most sorely those who have lost a loved one. The rest of us might still think we are invincible, and a texting-related accident surely wouldn’t happen to us.
Thing is, it’s not just about sending texts while driving. It’s also about receiving them while driving. You could be perfectly safe in sending your (driving) friend a text message from your couch. But viewing it may be the last thing that your (driving and reading) friend does.
Would you want your number to be the last one showing on your friend’s phone?
It’s clear that texting while driving is hard to ban by law. Of course, we can implement more laws, stricter consequences and more severe punishment. Is that the point?
No. We here at McClain Insurance like to think that the point is for all of us to get safely from A to B.
And to not have our loved ones die before their time.
Please get there safely.
